These are some Amazin’ auction items.
The late great Mets pitcher Tom Seaver’s Hall of Fame induction plaque and 1969 World Series championship ring are two of nearly 200 items from his personal collection being sold at Heritage Auctions’ Winter Platinum Sports Catalog auction through March 1.
The 10-carat gold ring with a diamond inset, engraved with the words “New York Mets World Champions 1969” and Seaver’s signature, could fetch $300,000.
“The ’69 ring was very hard to part with. We had trouble deciding on that,” Seaver’s daughter, Anne, told The Post.
Tom Terrific’s ’69 season is considered “one of the most commanding pitching performances in modern baseball history,” and led the team to their first championship, the auction house noted.
His 1992 Baseball Hall of Fame induction plaque was also chosen for the auction by Anne and her mom, Nancy, who sifted through the items in Seaver’s office and storage area in their California home.
The 9-by-6 bronze plaque, a replica of the plaque in the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY, describes Seaver as a “franchise power pitcher who transformed Mets from lovable losers into formidable foes.” It could go for $40,000.
Seaver, considered the greatest Met ever, died in 2020.
Anne said she never realized how large her dad’s fan base was until after he died, and they all started following her on social media.
“I never realized how much they loved him until I felt that love directed to me when he died. The support and kindness I got from these strangers made me realize that he is a huge part of these people’s lives,” she said.
“So that’s my personal reason for wanting to share something like the ’69 ring. His fans loved him, truly. And that makes me love them.”
