The New York Yankees will face off against the New York Mets on Friday for a three-game set in the Bronx. The Subway Series, always one of the best series of the year for both teams, has more intrigue than ever this season.
After Juan Soto left the Yankees to join the Mets, there will be fans in the Bronx ready to let him hear it. He knows it, the Yankees know it, and the Mets know it. From boos to profanity to whatever else might come with it, Soto is ready for it.
“I don’t mind,” Soto told reporters, including The Athletic.
Unfair? Perhaps, but this is New York. Leaving the Yankees is one thing, but leaving them for the Mets won't ever be something a player gets love for. Factor in the type of player Soto is, and it makes things even more interesting.

“I don’t know if the reaction will be as well-received as he would be in here (the Yankees’ clubhouse),” Clarke Schmidt said. “But maybe rightfully so. I think it’s just part of the game. It’s a part about playing in New York and going to the other side, especially when you have both opportunities and choose the other one. The fans are going to take something personal to that, but that’s part of it.”
He did plenty for the Yankees during his one year with the organization, helping them reach the World Series. Ultimately, money won, and it's tough to blame Soto for that.
He had a chance to be a legend in pinstripes, but instead, went the other way, and Yankees fans are ready for him to have it because of that.
