May has treated the New York Mets well, with a 12-12 record overall, which is significantly better than April/March's poor record of 10-21.
However, the Mets are still 22-33, and very much on the outside looking in for the playoffs this season. While things are going poorly, there are still a few months left before the Mets need to decide on their course of action at the MLB trade deadline on August 3.
A few months from the trade deadline, Chad Jennings of The Athletic made an unexpected prediction for the Mets. Instead of the trend lately of the Mets being sellers, Jennings is predicting the opposite will come true.
Mets receive unexpected trade deadline prediction
"The bet here is that the Mets make enough of a run these next two months for Stearns to give his roster a real chance down the stretch," Jennings writes. "No trade deadline sale, but instead, an attempt to repeat 2024's late-season climb, with Francisco Lindor perhaps getting healthy in time to give the Mets a boost late in the year."
With the Mets' 22-33 record and with their massive struggles this season, many have slotted the Mets in as a seller at this year's deadline.
Such an outcome would not be a surprise at all, especially with the injuries to this team likely keeping them from a resurgent June and July ahead of the deadline.

But Jennings is predicting that the Mets will buck the trend, and instead of continuing to fall, they will stabilize themselves and act as buyers at this year's deadline.
It's entirely possible, as there are still two months left to right the ship. However, that doesn't mean such a turnaround would come easy.
Carlos Mendoza's squad would need to start playing a lot better, and players like Francisco Lindor, Jorge Polanco, and Francisco Alvarez would need to come back from the injured list playing at elite levels.
This is a very bold prediction from Jennings, and while there's a chance that the Mets can turn things around, it's a very big uphill battle that is hard to believe could come true with how the team is playing right now amid a six-game losing streak.
