Mets get optimistic projection on potential Freddy Peralta trade package

The New York Mets are looking more and more likely to trade away some of their players at this year's MLB trade deadline, given how poorly the season's gone.

It would be little surprise to see the Mets sell, and Freddy Peralta is one of the more obvious trade candidates. But, with his struggles this season, the Mets might not get anything close to what they gave up to get him.

However, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter shared an optimistic projection for the Mets with Peralta that would actually be a decent return considering Peralta's struggles this year.

Freddy Peralta's trade projection is optimistic, but it would be great for Mets

"Despite a lackluster start to the year, Peralta will likely be the top arm on the market outside of Tarik Skubal, potentially netting a Top 100 prospect even as a two-month rental," Reuter writes.

This projection, where the Mets could receive a Top 100 prospect in baseball for Peralta at the trade deadline, would be an incredible outcome for the Mets.

Peralta is 30 years old and has had a pretty rough 2026 season. He has a 4.53 ERA with a 5-6 record and 0.3 bWAR with the Mets across 17 starts.

Compared to his 2025 season with the Milwaukee Brewers, when he posted 5.5 bWAR with a 17-6 record and a 2.70 ERA in 33 starts, this season has been a nightmare.

But, with the very weak American League, there might be fewer teams willing to sell, which could limit the market enough for starting pitchers that Peralta is the best one available for trade this summer.

Peralta is still a decent pitcher worth investing in, though a Top 100 prospect as Reuter projected could be the return, which would be a bit too much for just a rental.

If he were under club control beyond 2026, then such a prospect would be a guarantee. But, since Peralta will hit free agency after the season, he's not likely to fetch too much in the trade market.

Fortunately, since it's going to be a seller's market this year, and Peralta might be the best starter available, the Mets do have a real chance to receive a Top 100-level prospect, even with his struggles.
