Mets' Francisco Lindor right next to Mike Trout on all-time MLB leaderboard

The stats are one of the coolest parts of baseball.

Players across eras can be compared with statistical measures that, in some ways, haven't changed very much at all over time.

And then sometimes, two contemporaries find themselves right alongside one another. That's how it has worked out at the moment for Francisco Lindor and Mike Trout on MLB's all-time stolen bases leaderboard.

The New York Mets' shortstop and Los Angeles Angels' centerfielder are both two of the most well-rounded players of this era, and that includes in swiping an extra base from their opponent.

These stats are before action begins on Tuesday, March 31 -- and it's just a fun little look at the coincidences of the game.

Trout ranks tied for 325th on the all-time steals with with 215 and counting. He's tied with Billy Werber and Randy Winn.

Lindor is in a five-way tie for the 320th place on the all-time list with 216 steals. Lindor is tied with Ryan Braun, Orlando Cabrera, Minnie Minoso and Sammy Strong.

Trout has been ever so slightly more efficient: He's 215-for-253, and Lindor is 216-for-267.

Of the players they're tied with, Lindor and Trout both have better percentages than any of the others.

Clearly, it's not the peak era of stolen bases any longer. Lindor and Trout are relied on to be sluggers, too, and not just speedsters.

That doesn't mean they don't have speed -- Trout especially early in his career was particularly special on the base paths.

Now, they might only steal occasionally, but each swipe they have will continue to move them slowly but surely up the all-time leaderboard, potentially side by side.
