You knew things weren’t going easily or especially well for the Mets when they were booed during Saturday’s game, following the feel-good ceremony to retire uniform No. 5 for all-time mensch David Wright.
The warm and fuzzy glow over their fantastic start to the season following their glorious October appears to have worn out faster than their overworked bullpen.
Which brings us to the Mets’ No. 1 issue with 10 days to go before the trade deadline. Yep, it’s that very pen, the group that rarely hears from us unless things start to go wrong.
The well-used bullpen did hold on to salvage the finale 3-2 over the surprising Reds before a sellout crowd at Citi Field on Sunday after blowing a lead in the eighth inning. But Mets relievers are obviously tuckered out from unavoidable overuse.
