Mets' David Wright makes Pete Rose announcement after MLB's decision

Major League Baseball made one of the most significant announcements ever on Tuesday, unbanning Pete Rose and other players.

Rose will now have an opportunity to join the Baseball Hall of Fame.

There have been polarizing reactions to the situation, but many former Major League Baseball players have been happy about it. That includes David Wright, a New York Mets legend, who spoke with Andy McCullough of The Athletic, saying it's “great” that Rose was reinstated.

Wright shared a fascinating story of the two that happened many years ago, adding that Rose’s autograph is one of the coolest he's ever received.

“One of the coolest autographs that I got, he signed a picture to me and at the time — I don’t know how many hits I had, but whatever it was, he subtracted it from how many hits he had, and he put, ‘Long way to go,’ in the picture,” Wright said. “I thought that was really cool. I have that displayed proudly. I’m excited for him. Deservedly so. He’s the hit king.”

It'll be interesting to see if Rose gets into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He'll have a different selection situation than the typical Hall of Famer, and it's tough to deny that he deserves to be in.

Sure, the gambling situation doesn't help his cause, but he remains the all-time hit leader with 4,256 hits. He made 17 All-Star appearances and won three World Series.

On paper, he's a clear Hall of Famer.
