Mets calling up Craig Kimbrel to help bolster bullpen

The Mets are turning to one of the best closers ever — currently trying to revive his game in the minors and claw back to the majors at 37 years old — to help their bullpen.

Ahead of Saturday’s game against the A’s at Citi Field, the Mets called up Craig Kimbrel, The Post’s Jon Heyman reported.

Kimbrel, who inked a minor-league deal ahead of the season and has recorded 440 saves across his career, has pitched in just one game since spring training ended, throwing a scoreless inning for Single-A St. Lucie on Tuesday.

It was initially unclear what the Mets’ corresponding move was or if the addition of Kimbrel was connected to starter Clay Holmes exiting early Friday night with hamstring tightness.
