The New York Mets could be in the market for a center fielder near the trade deadline. One potential option has just revealed his thoughts on being traded this summer.
Earlier this month, USA Today's Bob Nightengale revealed that the Mets are showing interest in Robert. Robert was an All-Star in 2023, his lone healthy season, but his talent is not being put to good use on the Chicago White Sox. Despite the potential Robert has, his stats right now do not look like a player who is going to help a team out via trade. Robert acknowledged how his poor play is impacting his trade value.
"Right now as my season is going, I don't think anyone is going to take a chance on me," Robert told MLB.com's Scott Merkin.
Robert's play at the plate is well below his career averages. He is slashing .186/.281/.308 with five home runs. He is, however, leading Major League Baseball in stolen bases.
Robert's biggest knock has been injuries. However, that is not the case this year. He is simply not producing like a player who hit 38 home runs just a couple of seasons ago. At his best, or even half of that, Robnert would be an upgrade for the Mets in center field.

The Mets have gotten a .233/.297/.371 slash line from center field this year. Those numbers are similar to what Robert had last season in what was considered a down year. Robert signed a six-year, $50 million deal with the White Sox in 2020. He is under club control through 2027. However, until he starts producing at the plate again, no team may be willing to trade for him. There may be teams willing to take a chance on him, hoping that playing on a contender will get him back on track, but the Mets do not seem like the type of team to do that.
