The action continues in round nine of Australian A-League as Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory square off in the latest edition of the heated Melbourne Derby on Saturday. Aurelio Vidmar’s men are unbeaten in their last four games against the visitors since October 2024 and will be looking to extend their recent dominance in the heated derby.
Melbourne City fought back from behind to salvage a 1-1 draw against South Korean outfit FC Seoul in their AFC Champions League clash at the Seoul World Cup Stadium last time out.
Vidmar’s side, who are currently fourth in the Champions League table, now turn their focus to the A-League, where they have enjoyed a solid start to the campaign, picking up three wins and three draws from their seven matches so far.
With 12 points from a possible 21, Melbourne City are currently fourth in the A-League table, three points above seventh-placed Western Sydney Wanderers outside the playoff places.
Meanwhile, Melbourne Victory secured a much-needed result last time out when they held on to see out a 2-1 victory over Adelaide United at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.
Arthur Diles’ men had failed to win their previous four league matches, suffering three consecutive defeats before playing out a goalless draw with Macarthur on December 5.
Diles will hope the result over Adelaide can kickstart Melbourne Victory’s surge from the doldrums, as they sit rock-bottom in the A-League table with eight points from eight matches.
