Max Strus gets candid about what it's like being teammates with Jimmy Butler

Jimmy Butler has cemented his status as one of the most respected players of the past decade. With his success on the Miami Heat, he earned a lot of people's respect because of how he managed to drag them to two trips to the NBA Finals, but unfortunately, he failed to lead them over the line.

Almost every teammate he has played with would agree that he is a bit of an intense player. However, he did make enough of an impact for a team that was not as talented as other teams. Former Heat teammate Max Strus has given a glimpse into what it is like to have Butler on the same team.

From 2020 to 2023, Strus was an integral member of the Heat rotation. He was one of their most reliable sharpshooters, but he also played a valuable role as an energy guy who will always fight for the loose ball and the offensive rebound.

Strus fit the bill of what it is like to be part of the iconic Heat Culture. Of course, he did leave the team in 2023 to join up with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but Strus' time with the Heat stuck with him. In fact, his time playing with Butler was always a part of his career he won't forget.

Over the years, Butler has been seen as a huge figure in the NBA world. He has had a lot of moments that have shown his unique personality, especially with the story of him beating the Minnesota Timberwolves' starting lineup with only third-stringers during a practice that came right before he did a viral ESPN interview. 

With that kind of context, people see Butler as an interesting player because of his personality. He combines that with elite performances that lead his team to the NBA Finals. As one of his teammates from that run with Miami, Strus' perspective is a good one to see.

"He’s also like an asshole towards you. One day you’ll look at him, and he won’t even, like, acknowledge you. You could go to dinner with him the night before, and you’re his best friend; then the next morning you go to practice, and he won’t even look at you or say hi to you. It’s like 'Damn, what did I do at dinner last night?' Then the game starts, and he’s your best friend again," Strus said about Butler on Pardon My Take.

Based on what Strus has said, it seems Butler is an interesting player to be teammates with. Now that he is with the Golden State Warriors, he is playing alongside big personalities like Draymond Green and Stephen Curry. It will be interesting to see what they are like behind the scenes, but with Strus' story, it seems there could be some clashes there.
