Max B wants to move on from his past issues with former collaborator Jim Jones.
The Harlem rapper and singer called into Drink Champs for an extensive interview and was asked about friend French Montana and Jim Jones squashing their longstanding beef by releasing the song “Too Late” in 2021.
Max revealed that French gave him the heads up and took no issue with it, stating that personal problems shouldn’t get in the way of business and chalked their old beef with Jones as entertainment.
“It was all love”, he said. “At this point, sh—t, business is business. Me and bro personal affairs shouldn’t be able to stop your business. You know that sh—t was mad years ago, we was running around young — we was entertaining. Jim said a bunch of hard sh—t about me. So, we all say hard sh—t about each other, okay? Jim done wished me dead, all type of sh—t.”
He then added, “It’s all good. Listen, man. It’s love, man. I want to start over. I’m a new man. I’m a married man. I got four kids. Like, I’m on a whole different time right now, my n—a. I’m out here to get my money and ride out the sunset with this sh—t. It’s in there for me, though. I’m going tell you that. So that’s the goal.”
However, when asked by N.O.R.E. if he had any regrets when it came to his relationship with Jones, Max admitted that he didn’t. “Nah, I don’t regret nothing,” he replied. “For me to have regrets is to question my past. I’m right where God wants me to be. I ain’t on my time, I’m on His time. So, whatever happened, that’s what was supposed to happen for us to get to this point right now. We gonna learn from that. We was young, bro. Everybody did wild sh—t, ain’t nobody perfect. We all did crazy sh—t.”
He continued by saying that he’s ready to have one last shot at superstardom and pass the torch to the new generation.
“At the end of the day, we all grow, we all become men, we all got responsibilities,” he told N.O.R.E. “It’s time to elevate. Time to build. You know what I’m saying? It’s time to get ready to pass this sh—t down to the young man, the young man’s world. So, you know, this little opportunity, I get this one last ride. The way I’m a give it to y’all is…I’ma just do what I do best, music and media and I’m a just give y’all great work and consistency and entertainment. And y’all n—as going to eat this sh—t. Y’all bros going eat it up.”
Max B became affiliated with The Diplomats and began collaborating on music with Jim Jones dating back to around the mid-2000s before the two had a very public falling out documented in the street DVDs of the time like SMACK and French’s own Cocaine City. His career was then cut short in 2009 when he was sentenced to 75 years for a robbery gone wrong. Max’s sentenced was reduced in 2016 and he’ll now be coming home later this year on Nov. 9.
