The Dallas Mavericks have a lot of questions this offseason. The Luka Doncic trade truly changed everything about their outlook going forward. It’s already been discussed at length why that was a mistake, but what’s done is done.
With Kyrie Irving out indefinitely with an ACL tear, the Mavericks might have to tear everything apart because it’s unknown when they’ll be whole again. ClutchPoints’ Enzo Flojo proposed the Mavericks do something drastic: trade Anthony Davis.
Flojo floated the following trade between the Mavericks, Chicago Bulls, and Orlando Magic.
Mavericks receive: Zach Collins, rotation players, and a few first-round picks
Magic receive: Nikola Vucevic, 2025 draft pick
Bulls receive: Davis and a rotation player

Flojo explained why the Mavericks would trade Davis, writing, “Davis just turned 32, and he has a lengthy injury history… Trading Davis now, while he still has value, allows the Mavs to hit reset without bottoming out completely. It gives Irving a chance to play with more balanced, younger, and more versatile pieces. It also allows the front office to replenish draft capital and regain control of its future.”
A trade like this would only happen if a, the Mavericks have already given up on Davis, and b, this is the best deal out there for them. Davis may be injury-prone, but he’s still one of the best bigs in the NBA. Dallas could surely fetch more than rotation players and draft assets.
Also, it would make little sense to keep Irving around if Dallas plans to tear it down. Odds are, the Mavericks will try to see what Davis and Irving can do together before making a move like this.
