Kyrie Irving has been one of the most gifted playmakers of his generation. Dallas Mavericks found him firsthand when the generational talent teamed up with Luka Doncic to reach the 2024 NBA Finals.
But the last year and a half have been grueling. The nine-time All-Star tore his ACL in March 2025 and missed the entire 2025-26 season. He faced such a shocking setback for the first time in his 15-year career. Now he's heading into the 2026-27 season declaring himself fully healthy and ready to get back on the floor.
With his return locked in, Irving isn't shy about reminding people of his legacy. In a clip shared by Bleacher Report, he could be seen watching highlights of himself during a live stream and telling viewers, "Y'all will never see another player like me... I'm cut from a different cloth."
— NBACentral (@TheDunkCentral) August 18, 2026The video shows off exactly why Kyrie Irving is so special on the court. It captures his signature style perfectly: the lightning-fast crossovers, the hesitation moves that leave defenders frozen and the crazy finishes around much bigger players at the rim. Before his injury, fans used to say his footwork and touch were completely unmatched.
However, things in the Mavs' organization have changed a lot since he went down with an injury. He is returning to a revamped roster built around reigning Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg. Masai Ujiri has taken over as the new team president, and Dusty May has stepped in as the new head coach for the 2026–27 season.
Trade speculation has followed Irving throughout his rehab, given his age and the uncertainty around how he'll look post-ACL. But the front office wants to see what his combination with Flagg looks like on the court.
For now, the guard sounds completely locked in on proving he still has plenty left in the tank, highlights and all.
