Mavericks just made official offer for coveted European prospect in a deal that would send $2 million overseas

The Dallas Mavericks are trying to fix their outside shooting by signing Turkish league star Tarik Biberovic. Dallas got his draft rights from the Memphis Grizzlies as part of the Santi Aldama trade.

Memphis originally picked Biberovic 56th overall in 2023 but left him in Europe to develop. He has played for Fenerbahce Beko since he was 18, helping them win the 2025 EuroLeague title and a few domestic championships.

This past EuroLeague season, Biberovic averaged 10.7 points across 36 games, shooting 44.3% from the field and 39.9% from three. He also dominated his Turkish domestic league games, averaging 12.3 points while knocking down an incredible 48.9% of his three-pointers.

Turkish journalist Yagız Sabuncuoglu confirmed the offer is official. Reporting through the outlet Fener, he noted that Dallas' current offer is still far below the salary Biberović is asking for. If he transfers to the NBA, Fenerbahce will receive a $2 million buyout fee.

Yağız Sabuncuoğlu:

"Dallas Mavericks, Tarık Biberović için resmi teklif yaptı! Dallas, yaptığı teklifle Tarık’ın talep ettiği maaşa henüz yaklaşamadı. Maaş konusundaki pazarlıklar sürüyor. Tarık, NBA’e transfer olması halinde Fenerbahçe 2 milyon dolar kazanacak." pic.twitter.com/mwycX1W5og

That $2 million buyout is the primary hurdle. NBA rules limit franchises to paying a maximum of $900,000 toward overseas buyouts, leaving a massive $1.1 million financial gap that Biberovic must cover himself. This remaining balance is why contract negotiations are dragging out.

For Masai Ujiri and Dusty May, signing Biberovic is undoubtedly a smart, low-cost depth move. Their roster lacks reliable outside shooters next to Cooper Flagg.

A 6-foot-7 wing who hits over 40% from deep gives Dallas a plug-and-play spacer without burning valuable cap space. It is a quiet addition, but it gives Flagg much-needed breathing room on the floor.
