Mass baseball bat attack sends several to hospital after road rage incident

A bizarre fight involving a baseball bat sent multiple people to the hospital in Fresno after an argument about a traffic accident reportedly spiraled out of control.

The incident happened in the 2500 block of East Lewis Avenue, near Fresno Street on Friday around 5:30 p.m., according to the Fresno Bee.

Police said a person used a bat to strike several people, and another person was hit with a sharp object.

Officers arrived on scene and found seven people injured, including the three who needed to be hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The other four injured people remained on the scene.

It’s unclear what started the argument or the exact circumstances of the fight.

“It’s early in the investigation, but we believe it stemmed from an earlier traffic accident that occurred here at Lewis and Fresno,” Lt. James Rossetti told YourCentralValley.

Police were seen hanging around the scene and taped off the area with yellow tape. At least one vehicle was seen with damage to its front left.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

The baseball bat fight happened near Fresno’s Hammond neighborhood, north of the city’s downtown district. Fresno is located in Central California and is the state’s fifth-largest city.

The California Post reached out to the Fresno Police Department for comment.

An Orange County grandmother was nearly beaten to death earlier this month by a young man whom she had invited into her home after he brutally assaulted her with a metal baseball bat as she slept.

She survived the attack but was left with injuries including “a laceration to her forehead, cut eyebrow, swollen hands, and swollen orbital area to the point she was unable to clearly see.”
