‘The Masked Singer’s’ Most Shocking Reveals That Made Fans' Jaws Drop
The Masked Singer had fans totally bugging with a double reveal.
On the Jan. 20 episode of the singing competition, two more stars went home as they said goodbye to Handyman and Scarab. But who were the famous faces behind the elaborate costumes?
Handyman was the first to go, although he noted in his clue video, “I’ve been known to stand out.”
But as he explained, he suffered “a painful accident” that “changed my voice overnight.”
“But I didn’t let that hold me back,” Handyman continued. “And you know what, my voice got people’s attention and suddenly you can hear me everywhere. The radio, movies—even kids' shows.”
The judges pointed to a bear wearing an “I Love the 90s” shirt and a microphone made out of ice before Handyman took the stage for a performance of “Can I Kick It” by A Tribe Called Quest. And once they saw the candy wrappers on stage, they knew the celeb could only be a rapper.
Jenny McCarthy was the first to lock in her guess, going with Chuck D from Public Enemy. Ken Jeong noted one of the Handyman’s clues from the last episode—an Ace of Spades—which led him to guess it was Mr. T. Rita Ora clocked into the frozen microphone, wondering if it could be Ice-T under the mask. But only Robin Thicke was right, telling the crowd, “I know that voice,” as he correctly identified “Funky Cold Media” rapper Tone Loc.
Host Nick Cannon made mention of Tone’s other big hit, exclaiming, “It’s officially a ‘Wild Thing’ over here!”
And the Grammy-nominated rapper was delighted to have taken part in the competition—especially because now he could tell his children that he actually did it.
“My kids just dared me big time to come up on here,” Tone shared with the crowd. “They’re like, ‘Dad, you’re not gonna do that.’ But I had a good time.”
He added, “I’m 59 years old and I’m still having fun.”

But the ‘90s rapper wasn’t the only star to bid the stage farewell: The Scarab was also unmasked.
During her clue segment, she revealed her dad knew she was going to make it in Hollywood as the camera panned on a small rocket ship.
“He told me I was going to be a huge star,” Scarab said, “and that I’d be nominated for an Oscar.”
And all of her father’s predictions came true—“even that nomination.” Unfortunately, he passed away a week before the Oscar ceremony, which made the evening a difficult one for the actress.
“It was hard to smile in those photos that night, but mom and I made the most of it,” she shared. “He would have loved it.”
Scarab then launched into an emotional rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want To Have Fun.”
Her last clue? A roll of cookie dough, as she told the judges there was, “A lot of baking under pressure to get where I am.”
And while the judges were all shocked she was one of the two headed home, they of course had several guesses as to who she was. Robin switched his pick from Sheryl Lee Ralph to Regina King, while Jenny stuck with her initial choice of Angela Bassett. Ken found himself noting the green and pink in her costume, closing his case with Wicked star Cynthia Erivo. But Rita was the one to guess correctly that it was Empire actress Taraji P. Henson, who was nominated for an Oscar in 2009 for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

“Finally she’s here,” Nick laughed once she was unmasked. “The most decorated celebrity we’ve ever had on this show. For 14 seasons we been waiting for you to come and bless us.”
“I finally made it,” Taraji said, before turning to the audience and asking, “Who voted me off, though?”
Despite having to say goodbye, the Hidden Figures actress found that she quite enjoyed having her identity hidden.
“I had a lot of confidence. It’s a lot of things you can do hiding behind a mask,” she shared. “Because no one can see. No one can see you so you can get down. She was gettin’ jiggy with it. But you can’t lip sync. That’s the only thing—you have to really sing.”
And sing she did, ending the show with a rendition of Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain.”
The Masked Singer airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on Fox.
