A snippet from Marty Supreme has recently circulated online after being shared by DiscussingFilm, offering viewers a sneak peek at Josh Safdie’s next film ahead of its December 25, 2025, release. The footage features Timothée Chalamet alongside Gwyneth Paltrow in a scene set on a film production set.
The clip shows Marty entering during a shoot and interacting with Kay, who is in the middle of filming. Their exchange unfolds amid ongoing production activity, with minimal dialogue and no direct exposition.
As the scene progresses, Marty demonstrates a performance beat to another actor through physical movement rather than verbal instruction, while Kay observes. The clip focuses on interaction and behavior rather than plot details, presenting the two characters in a professional environment without revealing broader narrative context.
In a December 19, 2025, interview with Indiewire, Timothée Chalamet shared his thoughts about the character and said:
“You want to play real, real people, real life. Life is messy. Marty is a real guy that has positive qualities about him. He’s a big dreamer. He’s a hard worker. He believes in what he believes in, his native qualities.”He added that the character is also defined by his flaws.
“He’s not particularly attuned to other people in his life that care for him. He’s willing to cross lines ethically and physically to get to where he wants,” he said.Marty Supreme (2025): Creative direction and background
In a recent interview with The Guardian, Josh Safdie, who directed Marty Supreme, shared his creative direction for the characters, which was closely influenced by the historical period and setting in which they were set. He added that the project draws on both fictional and nonfictional influences.
“These wide-eyed, determined people who live with a sense of urgency, outside of time, are very attractive to me........, That chronicling of the Lower East Side, all these idiosyncratic singular characters living on top of each other in chaos,” he explained.

(Photo by Dia Dipasupil/WireImage)Marty Supreme marks Josh Safdie’s return to solo filmmaking, serving as his first feature-length project without his brother Benny after nearly 20 years of collaboration. The screenplay was developed in collaboration with Ronald Bronstein and draws inspiration from select episodes in the real-life experiences of renowned table tennis figure Marty Reisman.
Marty Reisman (1930–2012) was a well-known American table tennis player whose career spanned several decades. Raised in New York City, he developed his skills in pool halls, where table tennis was often played for money. Reisman won multiple U.S. national titles and continued competing successfully against younger opponents well into adulthood.
He was also recognized for continuing to use hardbat paddles after sponge paddles became standard. Elements of his life and career serve as inspiration for Marty Supreme, though the film presents a fictionalized interpretation rather than a direct biography.
