Marta Suarez has her new team after Valkyries cut her so soon after drafting her

The Golden State Valkyries didn't keep Marta Suarez around long.

But after she was waived so soon after being chosen in the 2026 WNBA Draft, she has found a new team.

Suarez isn't staying in the W, though. She's heading overseas to play for Valencia in Spain.

Suarez had been the No. 16 overall pick in the 2026 draft. She was part of a trade that sent Flau'Jae Johnson to the Seattle Storm in exchange for Suarez and another pick.

That deal was apparently agreed to before the draft, but still -- the Valkyries got Suarez in a solid spot in the draft, then waived her only a  couple weeks later.

Suarez is a 6-foot-3 player who shot 37% from 3-point range while launching six attempts per game from deep in her final college season at TCU. That's in addition to being a good rebounder and a crafty basketball player.

Given her draft stock, you'd think she could've stuck in the league at least for a little bit.

But there are still so few roster spots in the WNBA. It's hard for even solid players to stick around.

Suarez found that out the hard way. If she plays well for Valencia, she may have a path back. But for now, she won't be taking part in the 2026 WNBA season.
