Marlins stay put in the power rankings despite a series sweep last week

If you haven't been tuning in lately, you might be surprised to see just how well the Miami Marlins are doing. While not much was expected from them this year, they surely have not been playing like it.

Miami has been absolutely rolling through the month of June. They put together a 20-6 record during the month, helping them stay in the thick of things in the NL East.

However, they had a bit of a scare last week. One that didn't really help their case in getting pushed up the power rankings this week.

Marlins stay put in power rankings despite a series sweep last week

The Marlins faced off against the Colorado Rockies in a four-game series to start the week last week. They had trouble taking control of the series, splitting it 2-2.

They then faced off against the Athletics, where they turned things around. They took care of the A's, sweeping them in their three-game series, making for a 5-2 week.

However, that was not good enough to bump them up the power rankings. Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller keeps them in the No. 4 spot this week.

"For a moment there, it looked like this magic carriage turned back into a pumpkin at 12:01 a.m. on July 1, as the Marlins went straight from 20-6 in June to 0-2 against the Rockies in July. They reeled it back in, though, scoring 28 runs while sweeping the A's. Sandy Alcantara picked up two more wins [last] week and has now won seven consecutive starts. And Otto Lopez went 14-for-28 with three home runs, bringing his batting average up to .346."

Miami will not turn its attention to a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners before wrapping up a series against the Cleveland Guardians before the All-Star break, and these two teams surely have the talent to really test the Marlins.
