The Miami Marlins are not one of the top teams in baseball this season, and would surely wind up as sellers at this year's trade deadline.
They've sold a few players recently, most notably with Ryan Weathers to the New York Yankees and Edward Cabrera to the Chicago Cubs. And another pitcher might join them on the move this year.
Sandy Alcantara is, once again, a trade candidate. And according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Cy Young righty was called the "hottest commodity" for this year's deadline.
Sandy Alcantara is MLB's 'hottest commodity' in trade market
"The hottest commodity at the trade deadline is expected to be Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara, and the Boston Red Sox could trade left-handed hitting outfielder Jarren Duran before the Aug. 3 deadline," Nightengale writes.
While there might be plenty of interest in someone like Jarren Duran, or a slugger like Isaac Paredes from the likely sellers in the Houston Astros, no player stands out as much as Alcantara.
It's rare that a player who won a Cy Young in the last four years is available, let alone for trade in the middle of a season, like Alcantara likely will be.
After holding onto him all of 2025 and the offseason, the Marlins have been proven right, as he's looked strong this season, and if they move him they should get a strong return.

While it might sting to part with Alcantara, as trading a pitcher as incredible as he is won't come easy for the fanbase.
But Alcantara's value might not get any better than it is now. He has a 3.04 ERA this season, and has a year-and-a-half left of club control thanks to a 2027 club option.
With plenty of contenders, like the San Diego Padres, in need of starting pitching help, the Marlins are sure to draw plenty of interest in their ace if he's on the block.
Miami trading Alcantara is a very real possibility this year. He's the hottest commodity for teams for this year's deadline, despite being three months away from the actual deadline on August 3rd.
