Mariners make wild MLB history with single-less start to 2026 season

The Seattle Mariners have begun the season 1-1 in a series against the Cleveland Guardians in Seattle. They lost Game 1, but won Game 2, and now sit at .500.

With deep postseason aspirations this year, the Mariners are bound to be one of the best teams in all of baseball. And they've shown their offensive upside, even without Cal Raleigh hitting well, as they've clobbered six homers through two games.

But, somehow, according to Sarah Langs on Twitter/x, the Mariners have made some wild history on offense. Through two games, the Mariners are the only team since 1900 to not record one single in their first two games. All of their hits are for extra bases, no singles.

Mariners have yet to hit a single through 2 games

"The Mariners are the first team since at least 1900 without a single through their first two games of a season," Langs posted. "9th team in span with 0 singles in ANY 2-game span, first since 2021 CHC."

Through the first two games of the season, the Mariners are hitting .155 with nine total hits in 58 at-bats. However, they've walked nine times and have all nine of their hits coming in the form of extra-base hits.

Seattle's offense has put up two doubles, one triple, and six home runs through the first two games of the season. Nine hits in two games, but no singles.

Accomplishing that in any two-game stretch in MLB history is rare enough, as this stretch is just the ninth time it's happened since 1900.

But, to do this to begin a season, and still actually score nine runs and go 1-1, is nothing short of impressive. The Mariners' offense has been very amusing so far.

Randy Arozarena has his one hit as a double. Dominanc Canzone has two hits, both home runs. Brendan Donovan has two hits, one home run, and one double.

Luke Raley has two hits, and like Canzone, both are home runs. Leonardo Rivas has one hit, which was a triple. Lastly, Cole Young has one hit, which was a three-run home run.

The Mariners' offense has put 18 runners on base through two games this season. And not one of those runners got on base by way of a single. It's been nine walks, six home runs, two doubles, and one triple.

This is a wild way for the Mariners to begin the season, as they are making some fun history. They will get a single eventually, but it will be interesting to see how long they can make this streak last, especially if they keep hitting extra-base hits in the meantime.
