Mariners leap up the power rankings thanks to their elite rotation

You can't talk about the Seattle Mariners for long before mentioning how great their starting rotation is. They are the ones leading this club with a team ERA of 3.55, which ranks them fourth, and allowing just 226 walks, the fewest in all of baseball.

Now, on the other side is their offense, which has largely struggled this year. Many of their wins consist of low-scoring games, thanks to the pitching staff.

While that is not a recipe for success, they have managed to string together quite a few wins. Against the Los Angeles Angels and the Toronto Blue Jays, they took care of business.

Mariners leap up the power rankings thanks to their elite rotation

Seattle started their week against the Angels in a three-game series where they were unstoppable. They swept the Halos, then turned their attention to the Blue Jays.

They weren't able to complete the back-to-back sweep, but still won the series, taking two games out of the three-game series, making for a 5-1 week.

This has helped push them up the power rankings as Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller has bumped up this club from No. 17 to No. 11.

"Seattle's six-man rotation is really starting to cook. Bryan Woo, Bryce Miller, Emerson Hancock, George Kirby, Logan Gilbert and Luis Castillo each tossed a quality start last week, with Hancock, Gilbert and Miller each going at least seven shutout innings. And if that wasn't enough, the bullpen went a combined 12.1 innings while allowing just one run."

This has helped the Mariners take control of the AL West, but they have a real test coming this week. They play the Miami Marlins before turning their attention to the Tampa Bay Rays before the All-Star break, and neither team is one that Seattle can afford to overlook.
