Mariners' Cal Raleigh is 1st player in MLB history with this triple-threat record

Cal Raleigh's brilliant, magical, unprecedented season continued on Tuesday night in a 1-0 Seattle Mariners win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

The superstar catcher put together a trifecta of stats that had never been done in the same game by the same player in MLB history.

The record comes courtesy of OptaStats, and it's these three things Raleigh did:

  • Homer in a 1-0 win
  • Caught a 2-or-fewer-hit shutout
  • Caught a dozen or more strikeouts

Raleigh's blast, his 39th of the season, came in the bottom of the sixth inning to account for the game's only run.

The standout defender behind the plate also did his job there, too.

He handled five pitchers, led by starter Logan Gilbert (6.1 IP, 2 H, 10 K) and capped off by closer Andres Munos (1.0 IP, 2 BB, 2 K).

It was a huge win for Seattle, which snapped Milwaukee's 11-game win streak and managed to get victory in a game that the Brewers started phenom Jacob Misiorowski.

Of course it was Raleigh that got the job done. And at this point, it's no surprise that he has done yet another thing nobody has done before in the history of baseball.
