Marcus Morris Sr. has been arrested in Florida on a fraud charge. He was booked on Sunday, July 27 in Broward County, Florida.
Morris was drafted with the 14th pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. He bounced around the NBA between the Rockets, Suns, Pistons, Celtics, Knicks, Clippers, 76ers and Cavaliers, but still amassed a 14-year career, last playing with Cleveland in 2024.
Marcus has an identical twin brother named Markieff, who was selected the pick before Marcus in the 2011 Draft. Markieff spent the 2025 season with the Lakers, but is currently a free agent.

Details about Morris' arrest are still coming in. His arrest report said that the former-NBA player was arrested on a felony charge of Fraud - Writing a Check with Insufficient Funds at an airport. It also says that the charge is related to another open case in a different state and Morris is being held without bond.

Morris already posted on his official X account, saying that the charge isn't nearly as serious as the arrest makes it sound.

In 2015, he was found not guilty of assault with the charges stemming from a non-NBA basketball brawl that included Markieff.

— x (@badnmean) July 27, 2025Morris' agent Yony Noy added some context about the arrest on X. He said that the charge stems from an outstanding marker from a casino. Apparently, Morris owes a Nevada casino a debt, and according to Noy, casinos can issue arrest warrants for an outstanding balance higher than $1200.

— Yony Noy (@YonyNoy1) July 28, 2025During a court appearance on Tuesday morning, Morris' lawyers informed the judge that the former NBA player was in the process of paying off his debts and that releasing him would expedite that process. The judge denied the motion for bond, per TMZ. She said that she would only release Morris for "extradition" or "if the warrants that were issued for his arrest were withdrawn." Morris has another hearing slated for late August, but there is hope that the situation is resolved before then.
