Mitch Marner hasn't been traded, yet.
But it could be coming soon for the Toronto Maple Leafs' superstar two-way winger.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported Monday that a deal with the Las Vegas Golden Knights still appears imminent.
“I still expect the Mitch Marner trade to Vegas to happen today. Nothing is done until it’s done, but I’m still under the impression that’s going to occur," Friedman said. "... I still think Nic Roy is in the deal.”
Friedman also shared that he believes it'll be a long-term deal if it happens.
That makes sense. A Marner sign-and-trade really only has value to Vegas if they get that eighth year added onto his terms. The Golden Knights could only sign Marner as a free agent to a seven-year pact, but if Toronto re-signs their player, they can give him eight.

If it works out to $14 million per year, that ends up as a $112 million total value contract.
At this point, Vegas seems the only team being mentioned in these Marner reports. It would be a tough break for anyone else who pursued him.
In the early going, the Anaheim Ducks seemed to be particularly involved, but they aren't being brought up at all right now.
Marner to Vegas seems inevitable. But will it be via sign-and-trade or free agency? That's the main suspense remaining.
