The Toronto Maple Leafs are facing frustration from their fans after an inconsistent start to the 2025-26 season. The team is 8-8-2, and their offense scores well, but they allow 3.83 goals, which hurts their results. The power play ranks 23rd, and the penalty kill sits 19th, showing clear issues on special teams. Injuries to Auston Matthews and Anthony Stolarz have added more pressure.

NHL insider Luke Fox ran a poll on X asking fans how they view the Leafs’ situation. After four hours, 43.2% said the team is “doomed.” Another 28.3% said they “will figure it out,” 15.1% want a trade, and 13.4% think a coaching change is needed.

Fans also shared mixed reactions in the comments.

"They do need to make a trade but next to nothing to trade. they do need to change coaches but very rarely does one get fired just getting into their second year. they wont figure this out, the team is weak on paper and ice. so they're doomed," a fan wrote.

"Our fanbase is so dramatic man. Horse blinders on at all times. Contenders who are within 2 points of the leafs: Panthers, Lightning, Rangers, Capitals, Wild, Oilers, Golden Knights." Another fan pushed back.

"Coaches are important but the players have to play," a fan pointed.

Some fans were still negative and pointed out the Maple Leafs' problems.

"It’s November and it looks pretty much over for the Leafs. Other teams have gotten better and this Leafs team has problems all over the ice," one fan reacted. "Changing coaches won't help. Trades won't help. Not when the players feel entitled, and all have no movement clauses. Healthy scratches of the stars are needed. If you don't pull your weight, you don't play, regardless how much you're paid." a fan mentioned. "Sure they need a new coach. But it's meaningless without replacing the nepo baby GM." a fan wrote.

Toronto has had some good wins, but losses to Boston and Carolina show their problems.

John Tavares helping Maple Leafs' offense

John Tavares led the Toronto Maple Leafs’ offense in the 4-3 overtime loss to the LA Kings on Thursday. Bobby McMann opened the scoring on a breakaway for a 1-0 lead. Tavares made it 2-0 with a tap-in at the crease. After the Kings tied the game, Tavares scored again on a backhand to put Toronto up 3-2.

Tavares praised Maple Leafs goalie Dennis Hildeby after the game.

"Dennis was our best player no doubt," Tavares said, via NHL. "Just stood tall, was real calm, trusted his game... He was tremendous."

Los Angeles forced overtime and won on Quinton Byfield’s one-timer.
