The San Diego Padres got some massive news recently, with the sale of the team for a wild amount of money.
Jose E. Felciciano and Kwanza Jones are reportedly buying the Padres after a bidding war for a record $3.9 billion total. It's a ridiculous value, and shattered the record $2.4 billion sale of the New York Mets in 2020.
After this big deal, Manny Machado shared a wish for the new ownership. USA Today's Bob Nightengale shared the quote from Machado, which is one that many Padres fans hope comes true as well.

"I think they kind of want to follow Peter's legacy," Machado said. "If you're bidding that high, it kind of tells you everything about what you want for the organization."
The Padres have been in a strange spot lately, with the team seemingly uncertain about how much money they were going to spend year-over-year.
Fernando Tatis Jr. was thrown around in trade rumors this offseason, while Nick Pivetta, Jake Cronenworth, and others also had their names in trade conversations at times recently.

But, while those rumors had some backing due to the uncertain status of the Padres' ownership, this new group coming in should, hopefully, keep things going.
For years, the Padres were one of the bigger spenders as they pursued a World Series. And while there's been some worry about how things would go, this massive, unexpected sale might be exactly what the Padres need.
Machado is hoping this sale will have the new owners looking to invest in the team the way that Peter Seidler did for so many years.
The Padres have some incredible talent within the organization, and to compete with the Los Angeles Dodgers, they need to spend.
