Man Utd legend believes club is heading in right direction amid summer overhaul

Manchester United great Peter Schmeichel has given his opinion on the state of the club, as they continue to rebuild over the summer. The former goalkeeper produced many heroic performances for United and enjoyed winning a variety of trophies with the club. 

Since the days of Sir Alex Ferguson, United have failed to make an impression in the Premier League. With Ruben Amorim at the helm, the club is desperate to get back to winning ways. 

United are set for a complete overhaul in the offense, and there is potential for other positions to be bolstered as well. The first summer signing has come in the form of Matheus Cunha, an attacking midfielder from Wolverhampton

What did Peter Schmeichel say about Ruben Amorim's transfer plans?

Schmeichel believes that United are trending in the right direction. The Dane spoke to MUTV about the arrival of Cunha and said, "It's a positive one. I think what we haven't done, for a number of years, is to sign really, really good and well performing players from the Premier League."

Cunha has already established himself as a strong Premier League figure, finishing eighth in the Golden Boot race with 15 goals. Cunha also provided six assists in the league.

The former goalkeeper went on to say, "And, for that to be the first signing, that is an important signal to send to everyone."

The Dane believes that Cunha's addition with strengthen the team's attack and provide a much-needed boost for the unit. 

Schmeichel noted that Cunha's Premier League experience gives him an advantage coming into the team. He said, "We've signed too many hopefuls, who have done well in other leagues."

"I don't want to disrespect any other leagues but the Premier League is just played at a different pace. It's relentless for 90 minutes every time. You don't have a moment to relax. Playing in the Premier League is just more difficult than any other league."

The Brazilian midfielder could be the key to unlocking a powerful offense in the making under Amorim.
