Hizzoner is looking for someone to seize the means of production — in Gracie Mansion’s kitchen.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani is seeking to hire a new chef who can whip up South Asian and Middle Eastern meals for him and the first lady — and the gig comes with a salary of $64,500.
The “Cook” job was listed earlier this month, imploring passionate foodies with an aversion to gossip to apply for the chance to join the kitchen crew at the Upper East Side mayoral residence.
“Reporting to the Senior Executive Chef, the Cook is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality meals for the Mayor, the Mayor’s family, and their guests for daily service, events, and official functions,” the job posting states.
“Must maintain strict confidentiality regarding the Mayor, Principals, guests, and household operations,” it adds.
“The role requires experience with multiple cuisines with a focus on South Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine.”
What dishes the newbie will be expected to make for the socialist mayor and his wife, Rama Duwaji, was not specifically listed, but Mamdani named biryani, paan and lamb adana laffa as some of his favorite meals when asked about his “go-to” Big Apple restaurants last year.
He also celebrated his win as the city’s first Muslim mayor by sharing an aloo dum lunch with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in November.
The job is to replace a previous cook who left Gracie Mansion for a restaurant gig. The rest of the five-member kitchen crew all previously served under Mamdani’s predecessor, former Mayor Eric Adams.
Other than being tight-lipped, the ideal candidate would have three years of culinary experience, “strong knife skills” and be able to lift up to 50 pounds and “adapt quickly to shifting kitchen demands,” according to the job posting.
The hours of the full-time job were not included, but the listing warns that the cook should have a “fully flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and short notice shifts.”
The gig pays well above the city’s average rate for similar roles, according to Salary Expert.
A senior cook job with the city Department of Correction comes with a salary of up to $52,242, a job posting from last month shows.
The new Gracie Mansion cook will serve under Chef Feliberto Estevez, who has led the kitchen through ex-Mayor Bill de Blasio and Adams’ tenures.
Mamdani confirmed he was keeping Estevez back in June — noting that the biggest changes in the kitchen were a reintroduction of meat, but a ban on pork and on Adams’ notoriously unsavory green smoothies.
His predecessor posted various videos of himself whipping up the disturbing combination of romaine lettuce, avocado, banana, orange and red apple.
“I have not asked,” Mamdani told Fox 5 when questioned on whether he requested the staff to replicate the veggie beverage.
