Magic's Jase Richardson has a Dunk Contest problem involving his dad

1 hour ago 3

Jase Richardson is the son of one of the greatest dunkers in NBA history, Jason, aka J-Rich.

One problem, though, as the Orlando Magic rookie gets ready to rise up in the 2026 Slam Dunk Contest on Saturday night -- he doesn't dunk like his dad.

That's not to say Jase isn't a good basketball player. He was really good at Michigan State, and he'll likely develop into a solid NBA contributor.

He's just not a high flyer. He's a crafty lefty with touch, vision, handle and defensive ability.

Dunking isn't really a part of the package.

This season for the Magic, Jase Richardson has just four dunks.

Richardson's name will make him well known among a field of quite anonymous dunkers.

He just isn't likely to go out and win it.

He'll be competing with the backup center from the Lakers, Jaxson Hayes. There'll be Spurs rookie Carter Bryant, a great leaper. And then Keshad Johnson, a rather unknown Heat player who does have crazy vertical.

Jase is more likely to make a good, solid, fundamental play than he is to get a bunch of 10s during the dunk contest.

The best thing he might be able to do is bring out his dad to help him out somehow.

Maybe Jase will surprise us all. That would be cool as a second-generation dunk contest competitor. Magic fans will be crossing their fingers for their rookie.
