Magic Johnson shares encouraging Jayden Daniels update after dislocated elbow

The Washington Commanders could use some magic to heal Jayden Daniels’ left elbow.

The star 25-year-old quarterback suffered a dislocated elbow during the team’s game against the Dallas Cowboys Sunday night, marking the second straight season of incurring that specific injury, as he missed four games due to a dislocated elbow last season.

It was revealed Monday that X-rays on Daniels’ elbow came back negative, but the team is still gathering information to determine what might be next for their franchise quarterback. It is already being reported that Marcus Mariota is expected to start the Commanders’ next game against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.

In the meantime, an update on Daniels’ spirits arrived from a somewhat unexpected source: Los Angeles Lakers legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson.

Johnson made an X post Monday that read: “I just had a good check-in call with our @Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels! I was happy to hear that he’s in good spirits, and I’m praying for a safe and healthy recovery 🙏🏾”.

Johnson is a minority owner of the Commanders and has developed a close relationship with Daniels ever since Washington took him with the No. 2 pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Daniels being in “good spirits” isn’t the sort of concrete update that Commanders (and fantasy football) fans are craving right now. But it’s better than nothing, and might indicate that Daniels could be back on the field relatively soon.
