Magic draft pick Jase Richardson's game isn't anything like his dad, and that's OK

Jase Richardson is his own player.

Yes, he's the son of Jason Richardson, the high-flying, 3-point-chucking, long-time Golden State Warriors star. And yes, they both played for Tom Izzo at Michigan State.

But that hasn't stopped Jase from developing his own basketball identity.

Jase will now take that identity to Orlando with the 25th pick in Wednesday night's first round by the Magic.

Those who watched Jase in college understand, this is an NBA player's son who plays a lot differently than his dad (although his father did play 109 games for Orlando late in his career).

To start with the most obvious, Jase is lefty, unlike pops.

He also doesn't have the hops of pops.

And Jase is shorter.

Frankly, his long-term upside doesn't feel the same as his dad's.

But Jase Richardson can be a lasting NBA starter because of his skill.

He's got great handle, strong passing, sweet touch around the basket.

Maybe most importantly, though, Jase made 41.2% of his 3-pointers for the Spartans.

If he shoots like that in the NBA, everything else will fall into place. And he'll definitely make his parents proud.
