The Minnesota Lynx have the best record in the WNBA.
But when former WNBA Finals MVP Emma Meesseman chose to return to the league, she didn't sign with Minnesota.
Instead, Meesseman is the newest member of the New York Liberty.
Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve was asked about the situation on Tuesday, and she summed up her thoughts succinctly to the New York Post's Madeline Kenney:
“She made the wrong choice.”
Of course, Reeve was always going to have that opinion. She'll stand by her team over anyone no matter what.
Meesseman probably had her pick of any contender she wanted. The implication here is that the Lynx were definitely interested, or Reeve wouldn't sound so mad.
It's fair that Minnesota wanted Meesseman. She's a top-tier forward.
She was the 2019 WNBA Finals MVP and has made two All-Star Games.
Meesseman hadn't played in the WNBA since 2022.
But the 6-foot-4 Belgian forward averaged 12.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game in her final season in the WNBA, with the Chicago Sky.
Before that, Meesseman played seven seasons with the Washington Mystics, including the title campaign in 2019.

Meesseman has since played with Fenerbahce in Turkey, where she twice won the EuroLeague with her team and took home competition MVP honors.
She most recently played in EuroBasket with Belgium.
The Liberty play in Minnesota on Wednesday night. That'll be Reeve's first chance to prove that her team is the one Meesseman really should've signed with.
Really, though, the correct answer here won't be determined until one of these teams, or another, is hoisting the championship trophy at the end of the season.
