A Southern California driver responsible for a serious crash allegedly flew into a violent rage and stabbed two people Sunday night after rear-ending another vehicle.
Orlando Query Chavez, 49, was behind the wheel of a black Chevrolet when he slammed into the back of a white Chevrolet Silverado on the Interstate 5 off-ramp at Tamarack Avenue in Carlsbad around 7 p.m., according to CBS 8.
Video taken by a nearby passenger shows a bloodied up Chavez punching and stabbing the two passengers of the white vehicle. In other angle, his pants appear to fall down while he punches the driver’s window.
The suspect approached the 27-year-old male passenger before striking the 23-year-old female driver according to California Highway Patrol (CHP). Both then drove away from the incident.
“The guy started acting crazy again, pacing back and forth, pacing back and forth. Then, he went to the passenger side and stabbed him, stabbed him like five times,” a witness named Isaac Mandlawi who helped the victims escape told NBC 7.
“I was in shock. He decked her in the face. He decked her like three times, and she had blood gushing down her face,” he continued.
A photo taken by a witness identified only as Kerry K. shows paramedics treating the injured man, who appeared to have wounds on his stomach and leg.
The Oceanside Police Department arrested Chavez shortly after the violent attack and was booked into the Vista Detention facility.
He is currently being charged with attempted murder and battery with serious bodily injuries according to jail records. He is also being held without bail.
Mandlawi, who says he remains in contact with the victims, confirmed that both have been released from the hospital.
