The Los Angeles Lakers traded for Luka Doncic about two seasons ago, a decision that was easy to make.
At the same time, it wasn't like Doncic came to Los Angeles and had his own team.
In fact, one could make a strong argument that it was still LeBron James' team, considering that he is arguably the greatest player of all time, and any team he's on is always going to be viewed as his. James is also a great leader, and while Doncic is too, it's different because of who James is as a player, ultimately.
However, according to the most recent report, Doncic is very excited to lead his team, something he wasn't able to do with James.
“Leading his team is most important to him. Doncic and LeBron James worked well together as a pairing when both were healthy, but the leadership aspect was never all that comfortable. Doncic wants to be his team’s leader, and the Lakers have put a group around him in which now he is obviously comfortable being the lead dog,” Sean Deveney wrote.
While this doesn't mean James and Doncic had a bad relationship, it does give him an opportunity he didn't have elsewhere.
It's also a promising sign that he feels this way, as he now understands that the weight is on his shoulders to make Los Angeles a high-level team.
