For the second consecutive year, it's Tigers vs. Tigers on the first full Saturday of the college football season. This time, there is a twist.
LSU not only has a new head coach in the polarizing Lane Kiffin, but the headlines in Baton Rouge have been dominated by a legal battle between the school and the SEC over the eligibility of players who previously declared for the NFL Draft and spent the summer in NFL training camp. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney has called LSU's efforts to add those players "embarrassing."
After Kiffin's chaotic exit more than nine months ago and a summer of potential distractions, Saturday is finally the night football becomes the story for LSU.
Standing in Kiffin's way will be Swinney, who is heading into his 18th full season as Clemson's head coach with lower expectations, at least from the outside, than the program is used to. Clemson is unranked in the preseason AP Poll for the first time since 2011 and has a new quarterback in Christopher Vizzina, so Swinney's squad will have something to prove on Saturday night.
