LSU Tigers QB Garrett Nussmeier’s injury ‘created panic and fear’ for fanbase, deemed ‘just a tweak’

LSU Tigers quarterback Garrett Nussmeier’s injury during Wednesday's practice inspired a number of cryptic tweets and, in general, inspired freakouts across social media.

As the New Orleans Advocate’s Wilson Alexander noted, though, Nussmeier’s ambiguous injury was “just a tweak.”

“Rumors of a serious injury to LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier at a closed practice Wednesday took off on the internet, creating panic and fear within the Tigers' fanbase,” Alexander wrote.

“Nussmeier did not suffer a major injury or have to be carted off the field, multiple sources told The Advocate. One source described the issue as "just a tweak" and added Nussmeier was able to walk on his own.”

On3’s Shea Dixon revealed that Nussmeier’s absence from the rest of practice was “strictly precautionary” internally.

“During Wednesday’s practice, Nussmeier was involved in what one source described as ‘normal football stuff’ during offense vs. defense drills, adding that Nussmeier was not ‘carried off the field,’ as reported, but rather walked it off ahead of starting the next play before LSU head coach Brian Kelly “told Nuss to just sit it out for the rest of the practice,” Dixon wrote.

Multiple sources described Kelly’s decision as ‘strictly precautionary.’”

Nussmeier will have extra time to rest and recover this week. It looks like one of the 2026 NFL draft’s top QB prospects survived a worst-case scenario that could’ve drastically re-shaped the 2025 college football season in Baton Rouge.
