Love throws three picks as Packers exit playoffs to Eagles

2 hours ago 1

The Philadelphia Eagles overcame the Green Bay Packers in Wild Card Round of the NFL playoffs, labouring somewhat to a 22-10 win.

The Eagles had four takeaways in the contest but converted only one of them into points - a Packers fumble on the opening kickoff helping set up a Jalen Hurts touchdown pass to Jahan Dotson three plays later.

Packers quarterback Jordan Love tossed two poor interceptions in the second quarter, while Brandon McManus also missed with a fairly straightforward 38-yard field goal attempt for Green Bay.

Somehow, despite such glaring errors, the Packers trailed by only 10 at the half as a rusty Eagles offense - Saquon Barkley aside - failed to convert their dominance into a greater advantage on the scoreboard.

Green Bay threatened to rally at points in the second half but lost multiple offensive weapons to injury and their challenge soon subsided as a result, Philadelphia safely securing a home tie in the Divisional Round next weekend.

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert scored a touchdown after moving a Green Bay Packers defender out the way with not one, but two stiff-arms.

Philadelphia immediately answered back, reasserting their dominance as Dallas Goedert brutally stiff-armed Green Bay cornerback Carrington Valentine not once, but twice on his way into the end zone for a 24-yard TD.

Josh Jacobs answered Goedert's challenge with an angry run of his own to end the third quarter, the Packers running back mowing down several Eagles defenders for a 32-yard pickup that set up his own goal-line score to start the fourth.

At that stage, it looked like the game might spark into life, with Green Bay trailing by just six but, with the likes of Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs sideline mid-game - added to the already missing Christian Watson from the receiving corps - a thrilling finale failed to ignite.

The Eagles moved comfortably clear of their opponents with a pair of Jake Elliott feild goals, before the contest was clinched with a third interception of Love late in the game as the Packers' desperation grew.

    How do you beat Barkley?

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley: "Love it. A year ago I put out a tweet while sat on my couch that I needed to be back playing playoff football, so I'm happy to be here and shout out to my teammates.

"The most important thing in the playoffs is winning and advancing - no matter how it looks. There are some things we can work on and improve on."

Sky Sports NFL's Jason Bell: "It was competitive, both defenses showed up but it was about the turnovers - they were the key, especially in a tightly-contested game like we had.

"He [Barkley] deserves this, he is that offense, he gives them juice, gives them life. They understand that for them to make it to the Super Bowl it's on Saquon - how do you beat them when he is rolling?"

Sky Sports NFL's Ndamukong Suh: "This is why I went back to play football with Philly in 2022, there was an opportunity to get back to the big dance and enjoy those moments. This is what you play the game for, to play in these big games."

Sky Sports NFL's Phoebe Schecter: "Turnovers, penalties, drops across the board, you can see why [Packers head coach] Matt LaFleur was so frustrated with the team in the end. The Packers were pretty close the entire time, but it was about who makes fewer mistakes in that situation."
