Losing out on 12-time All-Star tabbed as Nuggets' biggest offseason miss

The Denver Nuggets have had a good offseason, but one move could have made it even better.

Over the past several weeks, the Nuggets have shaped their roster back into championship form. After a grueling seven-game loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round, the Nuggets were unafraid to shake things up.

With the team looking to win a championship again in the near future, Denver has tried to shore up some of its weakest spots, replacing Michael Porter Jr. with Cam Johnson and adding Jonas Valanciunas to back up Nikola Jokic.

While those moves should certainly help the Nuggets’ chances of competing for a title in 2026, there is still a bit of a hole in the backcourt, as pointed out by ClutchPoints’ Bailey Bassett. In his article, Bassett pointed to perhaps the biggest missed opportunity of the Nuggets’ offseason, as they didn’t even get involved in the Chris Paul race.

While the 12-time All-Star might have been making his way to the LA Clippers anyway, the Nuggets would have given him a far better chance at winning a title than any other rumored team. It also could have been a seamless fit for Paul playing alongside another high-IQ star in Nikola Jokic.

With Russell Westbrook still in free agency, a return in Denver isn’t entirely off the table, but Paul would have made some sense as his replacement. In any case, the Nuggets still have some uncertainty in the backcourt, even after all of their big moves this summer.
