Los Angeles Chargers have obvious trade target that must be explored to fix running back spot

The Los Angeles Chargers have less than two weeks to add another running back ahead of the NFL trade deadline. That deadline is set for Tuesday, November 4.

The Chargers have seen their running back situation go from bad to worse and on Thursday Night Football, they will be without the top three running backs on the depth chart now that Hassan Haskins has been officially ruled out due to a hamstring injury.

That leaves Kimani Vidal as the only healthy option against the Minnesota Vikings. The team will likely elevate two running backs from the practice squad, a list that includes Nyheim Hines, Amar Johnson, Jaret Patterson and the recently-signed Trayveon Williams

First-round pick Omarion Hampton should have a chance to return to the lineup soon. That said, it is being reported that the Chargers are 'desperate' for a new running back. There is another AFC team that is reportedly willing to part with one of theirs

That team would be the Cleveland Browns and that player would be Jerome Ford.

The Browns seem to have struck gold with second-round pick Quinshon Judkins and they also have another exciting rookie in Dylan Sampson. Ford is the odd man out there and is a player the Chargers could get at a decent price.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN predicts that there is a 35 percent chance that Ford is moved before November 4, and he lists the Chargers as a prime landing spot. If the Browns are genuinely interested in dealing him, the Chargers are the most obvious team to make that move.

Ford has over 1,400 yards on the ground and seven touchdowns in his career in Cleveland while adding 101 receptions and five more scores. But this season, he has been given just 21 total carries as the team has featured Judkins. Ford is only 26 years old but he is in the final year of his contract. With him set to become a free agent at season's end, the Browns could opt to get something for him now.

The Chargers should make a phone call and see if a deal can be agreed upon.
