Livvy Dunne says goodbye to gymnastics in the most epic and emotional way

4 hours ago 1

Livvy Dunne's farewell to gymnastics was nothing short of emotional, marking the end of an unforgettable journey for the young athlete.

After helping LSU capture their first-ever NCAA national title the year prior, the 22-year-old gymnast returned for her fifth and final season. Unfortunately, an avulsion fracture of her patella sidelined her for the latter half of the season, and despite LSU securing the No. 1 spot, the team fell short in the NCAA Championships semifinals.

Following their elimination, Dunne shared a simple but poignant message on X: “✌️out gymnastics it’s been real… and of course forever LSU!”

But that wasn’t her final goodbye. In a heartfelt tribute video shared to Instagram on Monday, April 21, with the help of videographer Giovanni Lamonte, Dunne reflected on her 20-year journey from her early days in Hillsdale, New Jersey, to competing with the U.S. Junior Women's National Team, and finally to her five years at LSU.

“Time flies when you're having fun,” Dunne said, recalling how the years seemed to slip by as she dedicated herself to the sport.

The rest of her emotional narration throughout the montage definitely brought out the waterworks, especially from her teammates who let her know in the comments.

Haleigh Bryant wrote, “Beyond proud of you, you deserve the world!! It has truly been an honor being your teammate these past 5 years!! Don’t forget about me 🥹 I love you sm.”

Aleah Finnegan added, “I AM SOBBING😭😭 SO beyond proud of you and the impact you’ve had on my life. Love you so big❤️❤️.”

“Forever your #1 fan!” her sister Julz Dunne wrote, while  the official LSU Gym account wrote, “forever a Tiger 💜.”

While it’s unclear what’s next for Dunne, one thing is for sure – she has some of the best cheerleaders around.
