Liverpool transfer target drops Premier League return hint amid Bayern Munich frustration

17 hours ago 1

Liverpool are planning multiple moves in the summer transfer window as Arne Slot bolsters his squad.

The Dutch coach secured a dream first year at Anfield as his side stormed over the line as Premier League champions less than 12 months after he replaced Jurgen Klopp on Merseyside.

Slot has been keen to stress the idea of 'evolution not revolution' in his plans for 2025/26, but the former Feyenoord boss has highlighted several key positions he wants to improve.

Bayer Leverkusen are continuing to frustrate the Reds in their efforts to sign Florian Wirtz - with an EPL transfer record fee of €150m [$171m] quoted - after already selling Jeremie Frimpong to Slot.

Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez is also on Slot's radar to back up Andy Robertson at left-back, but plans for a new attacker could depend on sales, with Barcelona's offer for Luis Diaz already blocked.

Despite the presence of Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch at the base of his midfield, Slot has been alerted to Joao Palhinha's lack of action at Bayern Munich, with the Portuguese star a long-standing target under Klopp.

Joao Palhinha's Bayern Munich contract, transfer fee, Liverpool latest

Palhinha completed a move to Bavaria last summer from Fulham - after being denied an exit in 2023 - but his role under Vincent Kompany has been minimal.

A first year at the Allianz Arena for both Palhinha and Kompany saw the return of the Bundesliga trophy, but the former made just six league starts, and the 29-year-old has now hinted he could request an exit.

"Let's see. My contract here still has three years left. I want to play for this club. But I have to discuss with the coach and the sporting directors whether I'll get a chance here. I really hope so!" as per quotes from Sky Sports Germany.

"If not, we'll have to wait and see and find the best solution. We'll discuss it and decide what's best for me – I'm ready, wherever my future lies."

Palhinha is rumoured to have been a target for ex-Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel, who departed just weeks before his arrival, with Kompany preferring German duo Leon Goretzka and Aleksandar Pavlovic in his engine room.

As indicated, Palhinha's current contract runs until 2028, but his transfer value has dropped to around £25m [$34m], which could represent good value for Liverpool on a player who finished in the top two for Premier League tackles won in 2022/23 and 2023/24.
