Liverpool's initial €100m bid for RB Leipzig wonderkid rejected

It's safe to say that one of the bigger names to watch in the Summer transfer window is that of Yan Diomande, who currently plays for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, but is expected to keep performing on the global stage with the Ivory Coast at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

It's no surprise that the 19-year-old has taken over the footballing world by storm, as he's taken extreme steps during his time in Leipzig, recording 22 goal involvements during his debut season with the Red Bulls, as well as coming up big for his country during their qualification stage for the World Cup, netting two goals in two matches.

Among all of the teams interested in acquiring the 19-year-old during the Summer window, no one has been more interested than Liverpool, which recently sent the German side a substantial fee of €100m.

However, according to a recent report, the Reds are going to have to do better than that.

The Red Bulls want more

🚨 BREAKING: RB Leipzig turn down €100m proposal received from Liverpool for Yan Diomandé.

RB Leipzig want more than €100m as still try to keep him — understand €120m could be the way… for now, based on WC performances too.

As explained by Fabrizio Romano, the Bundesliga side has declined Liverpool's €100 million offer, with a higher bid being the potential way of making things work, somewhere in the range of €120 million. Romano was also quick to state that the €120 million could fluctuate based on how Diomande performs with the Ivory Coast in the coming weeks.

If that's an accurate gauge of how much Leipzig is looking for Diomande, it would see the German side make six times the fee they paid in order to acquire him last year, as his arrival in the Bundesliga was worth €20 million.

Liverpool's further interest in adding depth to their front line comes after the departure of Anfield icon, Mo Salah, but also comes after the Reds hijacked Newcastle United's deal for Osasuna's Victor Munoz, with that deal being worth €40m.

It's worth mentioning again that Liverpool aren't the only side interested in the 19-year-old, with Leipzig expecting defending back-to-back European champions, Paris Saint-Germain, to enter the transfer war for their star player. It would make sense for the Parisians to be suitors for the Ivorian, given that their star winger, Bradley Barcola, has come under transfer speculation lately.
