Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos experienced the unexpected joys (and apparently, smells) of a live TV pet segment this morning.
Surrounded by adorable dogs up for adoption, Wednesday’s installment of Live with Kelly and Mark‘s “Raise the Woof Week” involved the co-host couple sitting down with Dr. Will Draper to review some “doggy do’s and don’ts” to better your furry friend’s wellbeing.
As Draper was explaining the benefits of “socializing” your pet, one of the dogs on set popped a squat directly behind the bench he was sitting on to do his business.
The studio audience caught wind of this (or rather, caught. a whiff) prior to Ripa, Consuelos, and Dr. Will, as their “oohs” prompted Ripa and Consuelos to take a look at what was going on.
“Good dog!” Ripa said. “Good dog.”
Still unaware, Draper asked, “What’d I miss?”
Ripa replied, “Right behind you, Dr. Will.”
Once Draper spotted the poop and the audience burst into laughter, Ripa quipped, “Wow, that’s pungent.”
Draper teased, “Can we switch?”
Consuelos attempted to get their conversation back on track, asking Dr. Will, “How about fancy dog food, like gourmet food? Do or don’t?”
Draper joked, “That dog has had some fancy dog food, I can tell you that right now. That’s some really good stool.”

Sitting on another bench alongside Dr. Will’s—and notably further away from the dog poop—Ripa and Consuelos slid down to make some room for Dr. Will, who was a good sport about the stinky situation.
“No, I’m fine. I’m fine. I do this for a living. I’m fine,” he said.
As Ripa asked about visits to the vet, she caught Draper waving his hand to air out the odor.
“I know, I’m sorry about that,” Ripa apologized with a chuckle.
Draper responded, “It’s alright. It’s not your fault.”
After a commercial break, Ripa made light of the situation, joking, “We’re back with some more doggy do’s—or in that case, doo-doo—and don’ts with Dr. Will Draper.”
The poop talk didn’t stop there, for Draper had the perfect response to Ripa’s question about whether or not you should reprimand your dog for an accident while potty training.
“Just laugh when they poop under the [bench],” Draper said.
Ripa joked, “I love when they poop here. It’s my favorite.”
Draper added, “I didn’t love that, but it was good. I told him it was a good poop. It was a good, healthy poop.”
Ripa replied, “Yeah I know, I was amazed by that. You were like, ‘That was a very healthy poop.'”
