Lisa Ashton Claims Latest MODUS Super Series Women's Week

5 hours ago 1

Lancashire Rose Lisa Ashton was triumphant on Saturday as she was crowned the winner of Women’s Week (III) at the MODUS Super Series, after defeating the events inaugural champion, Rhian O’Sullivan, in the final and claiming the top prize.

Ashton, a four time Women's World Champion, had looked out of sorts earlier in the week and entered the finale having finished only 3rd in Group B on Thursday and Friday. She began the night by winning just one of her two group phase matches, as she firstly suffered a defeat to Rhian O’Sullivan, before defeating Vicky Pruim to progress through to the Semi Finals, where she came up against Kirsi Viinikainen, and from there, Ashton whitewashed the defending champion, 3-0, to book her place in the final.

In the decider, Ashton came up against Rhian O’Sullivan for the second time on the night, who’d defeated Gemma Hayter in the last four, and this time ‘The Lancashire Rose’ got the better of her Welsh opponent, as she defeated O’Sullivan 3-1 to deny the winner of the inaugural Women’s Week the chance of doubling her title tally as Ashton joined O’Sullivan and Viinikainen on the roll of honour.

The MODUSs Super Series returns on Monday with the inaugural International Pairs week commencing, with the field including English duo of Mervyn King and Steve West. Play will commence from 9:30am BST and will be streamed live on the MODUS YouTube channel, Pluto TV or via various bookmaker’ websites worldwide.
