Lions well-represented in latest ESPN NFL position rankings

The Detroit Lions were well represented on the latest ESPN position rankings.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler surveyed league executives, coaches, and scouts on the best offensive tackles in football. The Lions appeared on the list twice, as Sewell was ranked as the second-best tackle in football, while Taylor Decker made an appearance on the honorable mentions.

"He's definitely one of the most complete players and most physical at the position," an NFC executive said about Sewell. "I just feel there are a few others that are more dominant in both phases."

"He has always been underrated to me. Big, smart, very steady, good in the run game and can handle power. Nothing flashy, but a very consistent player," an NFL personnel director on Decker.

Sewell and Decker are one of the most consistent and dominant tackle duos in football. The pair has locked down two of the most important positions on the offensive line for Detroit, and both are under contract for years to come.

Brad Holmes has made a plethora of excellent picks during his time as Lions general manager, but the selection of Sewell with the No.7 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft might be the best pick of them all.

Sewell is one of the most valuable players in the position and is on a Hall of Fame trajectory, as the Oregon standout has been a first-team All-Pro selection in two consecutive seasons.

Decker has been underrated for most of his career, but finally garnered some recognition last year by earning his first Pro Bowl selection. The 31-year-old has been in Detroit since 2016, and stuck through all the rough patches before Dan Campbell and Holmes arrived in 2021.

Overall, the Lions won't have to worry about the tackle positions for the next few years, as Sewell and Decker will continue to provide high-level play and protect quarterback Jared Goff while opening up running lanes.
