Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs' PPR fantasy football value just went way up for unexpected reason

7 hours ago 1

No running back scored more PPR fantasy football points in 2024 than Detroit Lions star Jahmyr Gibbs.

He locked up that title when Eagles RB Saquon Barkley sat out Week 18 while Gibbs played.

So it's already clear that Gibbs is a valuable asset, a top-of-the-board consideration.

But if you were looking for one more piece of evidence to draft Gibbs in the No. 1 overall spot this season, consider this: The Lions plan to line him up at wide receiver when he's not at running back.

Gibbs just said this in an interview

"I’m being split out, I guess, like way more than I was the past two years. That’s good, that’s going to be fun. I’ve been waiting on that. He wants me to be more involved in it, so that’s what he plans on doing."

Gibbs has caught exactly 52 passes in each of his first two NFL seasons.

Receptions can often be a bit more predictable than breaking a long run or finding the end zone. So if we give Gibbs even one more reception per game, that's 69 total catches and another 17 points, not even accounting for the additional yardage or TD potential.

The Lions clearly want to get Gibbs the ball. It neutralizes concerns about being in a two-headed backfield monster with David Montgomery.

Gibbs can be drafted as high as you want him. He's got a great chance of returning that value.
