Lions have more reason to believe this season will be different

The Detroit Lions are coming into a year that's going to mean everything to this franchise. Just a few years ago, they were on top of the world, literally, and No. 1 in the NFL. Last season, they were last in the NFC North, and they're looking to turn that around.

So, how many games will this team win in 2026? Colton Pouncy of The Athletic has his projection, and it's a pretty good one. It's not like the Lions are going to be undefeated, but he believes they'll be successful this season.

Lions projected to win 10.2 games in 2026

Pouncy thinks Detroit is in a strong position to have a successful season, and he sees a 10.2-win projection as a fair expectation for Detroit. That's a fairly good number, especially after a rocky season last season.

One of the biggest reasons he thinks they'll succeed is actually the schedule. The Lions have the fourth-easiest schedule in the NFL, according to the model, which could give them a boost over the course of the season. Pouncy also notes that there have been changes on both sides of the ball, including a new offensive coordinator, a younger and more athletic offensive line and more depth along the defensive line.

"Some things need to come together, and this division is one of the most competitive in football, but it’s certainly on the table for this group."
