Incoming Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro announced March 18 that a sequel to Pixar’s The Incredibles franchise, as well as a sequel to last year’s live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch, will premiere in the summer of 2028.
Indeed, a decade after the second Incredibles movie debuted in 2018, The Incredibles 3 will fly into theaters on June 16, 2028, Pixar shared on X. While the first two movies were written and directed by Brad Bird, the two-time Oscar winner will only serve as the scribe for this installment, while Elemental director Peter Sohn will take the helm, according to multiple outlets.
Meanwhile, Lilo & Stitch 2 will crash onto movie screens on May 26, 2028, Walt Disney Studios confirmed on X. Chris Sanders—who co-created, co-wrote and co-directed the original Lilo & Stitch movie in 2002 and co-wrote the 2025 remake—will write the upcoming sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Sanders will also continue to voice the titular alien, a.k.a. Experiment 626, which he also did in the Lilo & Stitch animated sequel Stitch Has A Glitch, which debuted in 2005.
Another chapter of the live-action version focused on the dysfunctional yet adorable ohana comes as no surprise given that last year’s remake raked in more than $1 billion at the global box office.
Disney's Pixar
“The love that people have for Lilo & Stitch continues to grow,” Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman said in a press release in May, “and the goal with this new retelling was for audiences to be able to enjoy these characters on the big screen again and hopefully have just as much fun watching it as we had making it.”
He added that the cast and crew—including stars Maia Kealoha, Zach Galifianakis and Hannah Waddingham—are “proud of how this new film has connected with people.”
Disney
“We never take that for granted,” Bergman shared. “I’m thankful to our filmmakers, our cast, and all on our Studio team who have made this film such a success, and we look forward to more adventures with these characters ahead.”
While waiting for The Incredibles 3 and Lilo & Stitch 2, read on to check out which movies are hitting screens soon.
